Take Heart

Today’s a new day! One of my favorite verses is “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” – John 16:33.

What does that verse really mean? One of the biggest lies many Christians are told when they start following God is everything will be perfect and they will never deal with the storms of life. That if God is on our side, nothing can go wrong, and all it takes is a quick prayer to get us out of a sticky situtation. Just like a sitcom on tv. All is good in 30 minutes. But we live in reality and we know that’s far from the truth.

Nowhere in the Bible are we promised a perfect life on earth. Life will be filled with struggles. We will all experience challenges along our journey. Those challenges will look different for each of us. Some will deal with health issues. Sometimes those health challenges will last a lifetime.

The point is that even though we all experience challenges in this journey called life, Jesus has overcome the world. As I mentioned earlier, we will encounter painful moments in this world, but there is a world beyond this world. A place called Heaven, where we will experience peace and wholeness. A place where there is no pain, disease, war, hatred or confusion. Heaven is paradise.

When I experience moments of hopelessness with my own health, I take a moment to think about God’s goodness and promises. I also take time to remember that I need God more today than I did yesterday. I may not understand everything going on in my crazy beautiful health journey, but God does. And for that I am thankful.

I am often asked why would God allow me to walk through so many years of suffering? Of course I do not have all the answers, but I have chosen to trust God in the mist of the storms. To look for every opportunity to help encourage everyone walking through their own challenges. I have decided not to spend all my precious moments researching Google looking for the latest medical or natural cures.

I’ve accepted that I will never fully understand every inner working of my body at any given moment. No one has it all figured out. Not even the medical world. That doesn’t mean I shouldn’t do everything in my power to pray and strive for better health. It just means I will not become consumed by my current health challenges. They are not my true identity.

Nothing gives me more peace and comfort than my relationship with God. Just like any personal relationship takes work and trust the same goes for our relationship with God. It’s a daily commitment. In life we so often stumble for answers. We jump from different diets, different relationships and different careers looking for the answer and looking for a way to make us feel good and worthy. There is nothing wrong with any of those things, but nothing will ever give us as much peace and purpose than a relationship with God and the knowledge that even though the storms of life can be hard, He has already overcome the world.

I know this was a long post, but I pray it brings you hope as you walk through the ups and downs of life. Blessings to all. ~OC

The “What If” Game

Dear Christians Brothers and Sisters, who still support former President Trump let’s play the “What If” game. It’s pretty easy. Here we go….

What if Vice-President Harris, President Biden or former President Obama spoke about or said the following:

The Vice-President is a piece of #%*€< to a crowd with children in attendance

The Vice-President is stupid and retarded

Described a former golfer’s genitalia at a rally with children in attendance

Lying about hurricane relief

Claimed to be the Father of IVF

Threatening political opponents with arrest

Claiming with no proof that Haitian immigrants are stealing and eating cats and dogs

Continues to talk negatively towards veterans and those who gave their life for America

Suggested Abraham Lincoln could have avoided the Civil War by cutting a deal with the South—which, as a reminder, wanted slavery to remain legal.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the point of the “What If” game.

If VP Harris, President Biden or Obama would have said the above things, you would have declared them unfit for any political office, let alone the office of President. But you seem to find it very easy to explain away these words and comments of former President Trump. Why is that? Are you more concerned about political power than you are the Gospel? Does truth and character only come into play for those candidates you do not support politically? Every word that comes out of a President or former Presidents mouth matters. Or at least it should.

I know most of you will claim Todd you’re being political, you’re attacking the former President, you’re being divisive and negative. You’re a hater. You are welcome to your opinion, but all I am doing is asking some questions. Because truth and character still matter to me. ~OC

Dear Christian’s, I Have Some Questions

Today’s a new day! I know I will take some heat for this post, but I am a big boy. As we move toward another presidential election, I truly am trying to understand how Christians can continue to support Donald Trump. In all seriousness and good faith, I’m asking you to tell me.

I am posting a number of questions here and I would truly love your honest feedback about your support of the former President.

I would ask that nobody leave sarcastic, snarky or rude answers or comments. I truly do want to understand how a Christian could cast their vote for Donald Trump.

I grew up in the Church, so I know we are all more than one thing. I know if I was just released from the hospital, you would start a meal train. If I were in a car wreck you’d stop to help me. You wouldn’t ask if I’m a Christian or a Democrat or a DEI worker. You’d just help. I know that side of so many of you. That’s part of what makes your support of Trump so baffling to me.

I want to understand this issue that puzzles me because what I see in the former President is absolutely antithetical to the gospel I learned about as a child in that Southern Baptist church in South Florida.

I want to understand how you see the former president so very differently than I do. So, please, write in and respond to one or two of these questions:

1). Why do you as a Christian support Donald Trump?

2). Do you think Trump as a person and/or his former presidency and current campaign express the love of God in Christ for others to see?

3). Does Trump’s personal moral behavior matter to you as long as he supports policies you want?

4). Do you think Donald Trump is a good role model for your children or grandchildren?

5). The Bible many times over says to welcome the foreigner within your borders. How does that square with Trump’s ultra anti-immigrant stance and policies that especially target migrants at our southern border?

6). What do you think of Trump’s history of sexual misconduct and impropriety, including comments about his own daughter, Ivanka?

7). The former president has threatened chaos, including the possibility of a civil war, if he’s not elected. What do you think of that?

8). If you believe the U.S. is supposed to be a Christian nation, what do you think we should do about the non-Christians who live here?

9). If the U.S. is supposed to be a Christian nation, which Christians get to decide public policy?

10). What do you think of how Trump calls people names or says ugly things about people?

11). Are you bothered by all of the Trump lies?

12). How does your support of Trump square with the Gospel for you?

Intimacy with God

Today’s a new day! As I have struggled with chronic health issues for 21 years, I have experienced a beautiful and ever deepening relationship with God. He’s constantly pouring out His love over me, and God is continuously speaking to me. Even though my health journey has not been an easy one, God has never felt distant. Even in the toughest moments, He has felt close like a warm blanket on a cold night.

I know for some people that has not always been their experience. They have had moments of feeling distant from God. While we should not let our emotions dictate our faith, if He consistently feels distant, we should question why.

I would like to share one of the greatest gift a person facing chronic health issues can experience during the trying times- intimacy with God. If you’re currently walking through a season of chronic illness, you can experience an ever-growing closeness with God during the toughest and most painful days. Here are some questions I have pondered over the years.

  1. Are you currently experiencing true intimacy with God?
  2. During your health battle when have you felt closet to God?
  3. How often in your journey have you compared your interaction with God to how He interacts with, responds to, or guides someone else?
  4. What are some ways you can intentionally draw close to God?
  5. Do you struggle with feeling as if you should do or be more as a Christian?
  6. Have you unknowingly slipped into a works-based relationship with God?
  7. In what ways is God using your current struggles to draw you closer to Him?

Where You Going?

Where you going? Don’t leave me. Where you going? I am comfortable with you. Why do you want to leave? Don’t you feel comfortable anymore? I like it here. Why do things need to change? I guess you have outgrown me. Where you going? Wait, don’t leave. I am holding onto the good times. I can’t let go. I guess I don’t want to let go. Where you going? Why do things need to change? Wait! Where you going? You don’t miss me? I miss you. At least I think I do. Wait! Where you going? Can’t we talk about it? It’s complicated I know. Wait! Where you going? I keep holding on to the good times. Sometimes, I even think about the bad times. Wait! Where you going? Is it time to say goodbye? Maybe. Wait! Where you going? ~OC

Question Of The Day

Today’s a new day! Does our attitude toward those who don’t believe draw them to Jesus? Or does it feel them with rejection and push them away from Jesus? ~OC
