The Flag Beside the Cross

I remember when I walked into church and the first thing I noticed wasn’t a political slogan.

It wasn’t a candidate’s name.

It wasn’t a red hat, a blue hat, or a message about which political party was saving America.

It was the cross.

The cross was the center of the room.

We sang about Jesus.

We prayed for the broken.

We collected food for families who couldn’t afford groceries.

We visited people in hospitals.

We welcomed the stranger.

We prayed for our enemies.

We didn’t have to agree politically to worship together.

We just had to agree that Jesus was Lord.

I remember those days.

I miss those days.

And sometimes I wonder if Jesus misses them too.

Because the Church was never supposed to be built around a political party.

It was supposed to be built around a Savior. ~OC
